Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (1 Position): This senior legal professional will lead and supervise the team of legal aid defense counsels. They will require extensive experience (at least seven years) practicing criminal law, possess a deep understanding of legal principles, and demonstrate exceptional communication skills – both written and oral.Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel (Multiple Positions): These lawyers will directly represent clients in need of legal aid for criminal cases. They should have a strong foundation in criminal law and a commitment to providing quality legal representation to those who cannot afford it.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

• Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
  • At least seven years of experience in criminal law practice
  • Excellent understanding of criminal law principles and procedures
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in legal research and a deep understanding of ethical duties of defense counsel
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with colleagues
  • Must have handled at least 20 criminal trials in Sessions Court
  • IT knowledge with proficiency in work
• Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in criminal law practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • A thorough understanding of ethical duties of defense counsel
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with colleagues
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • IT knowledge with proficiency in work
• Office Assistant/Clerk:
  • Graduation
  • Basic word processing skills and ability to operate a computer
  • Typing speed of 40 words per minute
  • Ability to take dictation and enter data
  • Knowledge of file maintenance and processing
• Office Peon (Munshi/Attendant):
  • Passed 8th or 10th Standard
  • Capability to clean and perform hospitality-related tasks
  • Ability to clean the office before the commencement of office hours
  • Willingness to perform any other tasks assigned by the Legal Services Authority

Salary Details

• Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel: Rs. 40,000/- per month
• Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel: Rs. 25,000/- per month
• Office Assistant/Clerk: Rs. 15,000/- per month
• Office Peon (Munshi/Attendant): Rs. 12,000/- per month
