Karur DCDRC is seeking applications for the role of Office Assistant. The eligibility criteria for the same are as follows:
Educational Qualification:
- Office Assistant: Should have passed 8th grade
Age Limit: (As of 01.07.2023)
- Office Assistant: For MBC/DNC candidates: Between 18 to 34 years Upper Age limit relaxation will be provided as per Govt. rules. Refer to the Karur DCDRC official Notification 2023 for further information.
Salary Details:
- Office Assistant: Basic Pay of Rs.15,700/- + DA + HRA

District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (DCDRC) is an important forum for addressing consumer disputes in India. It is a quasi-judicial body established under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. DCDRCs are located in each district of the country and provide a platform for consumers to file complaints against unfair trade practices, defective products, and deficient services. This article aims to provide an overview of DCDRCs, their functions, and how they have evolved over the years.
History:
The Consumer Protection Act was enacted in 1986 with the objective of providing better protection to consumers and ensuring that their rights are safeguarded. Under the Act, a three-tier consumer dispute redressal mechanism was established at the district, state, and national levels. The district-level forum was called the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, which was later renamed as the District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (DCDRC).
The first DCDRC was established in Delhi in 1987, and since then, these commissions have been set up in every district of India. Initially, the DCDRCs had limited jurisdiction, and they could only hear cases where the value of the goods or services in dispute was up to Rs. 5 lakh. However, in 1993, the jurisdiction of DCDRCs was increased to Rs. 20 lakh, and in 2020, it was further increased to Rs. 1 crore.
Composition:
DCDRCs are quasi-judicial bodies, which means that they have the power to adjudicate disputes but are not part of the regular judicial system. Each DCDRC is headed by a president who is a retired district judge or a serving district judge. The president is assisted by two other members, one of whom should be a woman. The members are appointed by the state government in consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court.
Functions:
The main function of DCDRCs is to provide speedy and effective redressal of consumer complaints. Any person who has a grievance against a product or service can file a complaint with the DCDRC. The complaint should be in writing and should contain details of the dispute, the parties involved, and the relief sought.
The DCDRC has the power to summon and enforce the attendance of any person and examine them under oath. It can also require the production of any document or other material relevant to the dispute. The commission can hear cases related to unfair trade practices, defective products, and deficient services. It can also award compensation to the aggrieved party and order the opposite party to rectify the defect or deficiency.
Appeals:
If a party is not satisfied with the decision of the DCDRC, they can appeal to the State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (SCDRC) within 30 days of the decision. The SCDRC is a higher forum than the DCDRC, and its jurisdiction extends to cases where the value of goods or services in dispute is more than Rs. 1 crore. The SCDRC is headed by a sitting or retired judge of the High Court and has two other members.
If a party is still not satisfied with the decision of the SCDRC, they can appeal to the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission (NCDRC) within 30 days of the decision. The NCDRC is the highest consumer dispute redressal forum in the country and has jurisdiction over cases where the value of goods or services in dispute is more than Rs. 1 crore. The NCDRC is headed by a sitting or retired judge of the Supreme Court and has two other members.
Over the years, the DCDRCs have evolved to become more consumer-friendly.
