How will you make an impact?
As an IT Operations Center (ITOC) Administrator, you will play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing our systems to ensure a secure and up-to-date environment. This position encompasses system operations, patch management, system upgrades, cloud integration initiatives, and various operational projects aimed at achieving our business objectives. You will have the creative freedom to think innovatively, make informed decisions, and implement solutions within established parameters. Your contributions will significantly impact our business and enable us to empower our customers’ success. Additionally, you will be responsible for addressing operational critical issues on an on-call basis.
What will you do?
- Drive Thermo Fisher’s digital transformation by leading the company’s IT Operational Support environment and initiatives in collaboration with global platform, infrastructure, and development teams.
- Work in various areas including:
- Reliability Engineering
- Platform Engineering
- Backup & Storage Engineering
- Tools and automation
- Cloud computing
- Networking
- Apply operating system patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and update administrative tools and utilities.
- Configure and add new services as required.
- Upgrade and configure system software supporting infrastructure applications.
- Manage environments in AWS, with a focus on EC2 and Systems Manager.
- Possess knowledge of writing and debugging shell scripts, as well as modifying them when necessary.
- Strong experience with VMware, ILO, and physical servers preferred.
- Proficiency in DNS, FTP, NFS, remote access, and security.
- Experience in server migration and upgrades.
- Conduct root cause analyses, provide mentorship, and collaborate with software development teams.
- Analyze and refine designs to enhance system stability and predictability.
- Offer L2 operational support for Windows infrastructure across physical, virtual, and cloud environments.
- Handle and supervise the service management work queue to address customer requests within established service level agreements.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide global support coverage for the Windows infrastructure.
- Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure by implementing established standards from the Global Systems Reliability team.
- Proactively identify and resolve infrastructure-related problems to ensure the highest level of server uptime and availability.
- Contribute to infrastructure upgrades, improvements, and maintenance activities.
- Introduce automation to enhance operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with external partners and industry leaders to stay informed about industry trends and technologies, integrating them into our strategies and roadmaps.
- Prior experience with ServiceNow and proficiency in crafting workflows.
- Ensure that solutions crafted and delivered by the Reliability Engineering team meet defined business requirements and exhibit operational excellence.
- Collaborate closely with IT Security to ensure that designed and delivered solutions meet data security and compliance requirements.
- Maintain availability for 24/7 on-call rotation to promptly respond to and resolve issues.
What qualifications are required?
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 4 years of Linux experience.
- 1-3 years of experience in patching multiple Linux platforms, such as Red Hat, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Sun Solaris, with a strong emphasis on RHEL 6.
- 2-3 years of experience with VMware virtualization/AWS Cloud infrastructure management.
- At least 1 year of experience in Cloud Solutions Delivery and Cloud architecture, particularly with public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP. AWS experience is highly preferred.
Tool & Technology Skills:
- In-depth understanding and experience with AWS and a cloud-first/cloud-only approach.
- Proficiency in AWS services, including EC2, S3, Systems Manager, RDS, Route 53, Lambda, IAM, VPC, and Security Groups, among others.
- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
- Ability to identify performance bottlenecks.
