This article will provide a comprehensive overview of the Damodar Valley Corporation, its history, objectives, and operations.
History
The idea of harnessing the power of the Damodar River for electricity generation was first proposed in the early 20th century. The Damodar Valley Corporation was established in 1948 as a joint venture between the central government and the state governments of West Bengal and Bihar.
The DVC’s initial objective was to build dams and power stations along the Damodar River to generate electricity for the region. The corporation began construction of the first dam at Tilaiya in Jharkhand in 1948, and the first power station was commissioned in 1953. Since then, the corporation has built several more dams and power stations, which have helped to meet the growing demand for electricity in the eastern region of India.

- Industrial development: The corporation’s power supply has helped to attract industries to the region, which has led to the economic development of the area.
Operations
