Eligibility Criteria for ICAR-CIBA Young Professional:
Educational Qualification:
- Young Professional-II: Candidates should possess a postgraduate degree in Biological Science/Life Science, Marine Biology, Zoology, Aquaculture, Coastal Aquaculture, or Marine Biotechnology. Alternatively, they can hold a graduate degree in professional Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Aquaculture Engineering, or Engineering/Technology related to Aquaculture.
Desirable: Applicants should have a working knowledge and experience in shrimp farming operations, farm management, and feed management. Additionally, they should be ready to work in shrimp farm and other related activities.
- Young Professional-I: Aspirants must have a graduate degree in Biological Science/Life Science, Zoology, Aquaculture, Coastal Aquaculture, or Marine Biotechnology. Alternatively, they can hold a graduate degree in professional Fisheries Science, Aquaculture, Aquaculture Engineering, or Engineering/Technology related to Aquaculture.
Desirable: Candidates should have knowledge and exposure to shrimp farming operations, farm management, and feed management. Moreover, they should be willing to work in shrimp farm and other related activities.
Age Limit:
For the positions of Young Professional-II and Young Professional-I, the maximum age limit for men is 35 years and for women is 40 years. However, candidates can avail of relaxation in the upper age limit as per government rules.

Salary Details:
The consolidated salary for the position of Young Professional-II is Rs. 35,000/- per month, while for Young Professional-I, it is Rs. 25,000/- per month.
ICAR-CIBA Young Professional Selection Process 2023:
The selection process for the ICAR-CIBA Young Professional post will comprise a shortlisting of candidates based on their application and subsequent communication via email to attend the online interview.
Only shortlisted candidates will receive an email with the interview schedule, and they must appear for the interview with the required documents.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is a premier organization in India that is responsible for research, education, and extension activities related to agriculture. ICAR was established in 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
It operates under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Government of India. ICAR is a network of institutions and research centers spread across the country that work towards enhancing the productivity and sustainability of Indian agriculture.
History of ICAR
ICAR has a rich history that dates back to the early 20th century. The need for an agricultural research organization in India was felt after a series of devastating famines that hit the country in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The British colonial government appointed a commission in 1926 to study the problems of Indian agriculture and suggest solutions. The commission recommended the establishment of a research organization to address the agricultural challenges facing the country.
Consequently, the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) was set up in 1905 in Pusa, Bihar. The IARI was later moved to New Delhi in 1936, where it became the flagship institution of ICAR.
The IARI was followed by the establishment of several research institutions across the country, including the Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack (1946), Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla (1949), and the Central Soil Salinity Research Institute, Karnal (1969).
Functions of ICAR
The primary functions of ICAR are research, education, and extension activities related to agriculture. ICAR carries out research on various aspects of agriculture, such as crop improvement, soil health, water management, animal husbandry, fisheries, and agricultural engineering.
The research conducted by ICAR is aimed at improving the productivity and sustainability of Indian agriculture.
ICAR also provides education and training to students and farmers through its network of agricultural universities and institutions.
There are currently 74 agricultural universities and institutes under ICAR, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in agriculture and allied fields.
In addition to research and education, ICAR also conducts extension activities to disseminate its research findings to farmers and other stakeholders. The extension activities include training programs, workshops, seminars, and demonstrations.
The goal of these activities is to help farmers adopt the latest agricultural practices and technologies to enhance their productivity and income.
Structure of ICAR
ICAR is headed by a Director-General, who is assisted by Deputy Directors-General and other officers. The Director-General is appointed by the Government of India and is responsible for the overall management of ICAR.
ICAR is organized into several divisions, including crop sciences, horticulture, natural resource management, animal sciences, fisheries, and agricultural engineering. Each division is headed by a Deputy Director-General and has several research institutes and centers under it.
ICAR also has a network of agricultural universities and institutions that are affiliated to it. These universities and institutions are responsible for providing education and training to students and farmers in the field of agriculture and allied fields.
Achievements of ICAR
ICAR has made significant contributions to Indian agriculture over the years. Some of the notable achievements of ICAR include:
- Development of high-yielding varieties of crops: ICAR has developed several high-yielding varieties of crops such as wheat, rice, and maize, which have significantly increased the productivity of Indian agriculture.
- Promotion of organic farming: ICAR has been promoting organic farming practices in India through its research and extension activities. This has helped in reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, thereby making agriculture more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
