Eligibility criteria for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Sub-Inspector (SI) and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) positions are listed below:
Educational Qualification: (As on 21.05.2023)
- Sub-Inspector (RO) – Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized university, with Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science as their subjects.
- Sub-Inspector (Crypto) – Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized university, with Mathematics and Physics as their subjects.
- Sub-Inspector (Technical) – Candidates must have completed a B.E./B.Tech or an equivalent degree in Electronics, Telecommunication, or Computer Science as their main subject. Alternatively, they may be a Qualified Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers or Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers.
- Sub-Inspector (Civil) (Male) – Candidates must have completed their Intermediate education with a three-year diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized Board/Institution or University, or an equivalent degree.
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (Technical) – Candidates must have passed their 10th Class from a recognized Board and have a three-year diploma in Radio Engineering or Electronics or Computers from a recognized Institute. Alternatively, they may have a BSc. Degree with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from a recognized University. Candidates with training in Software or Hardware computers will be given preference.
- Assistant Sub-Inspector (Draughtsman) – Candidates must have passed their Matric with English, General Science, and Mathematics from a recognized board and have a three-year diploma in Draughtsman Course (Civil/ Mechanical Engineering) from a Govt. recognized Polytechnic.
Age Limit: (As on 21.05.2023)
(a) Sub Inspector (Radio Operator/ Crypto/ Technical) – Candidates should be below 30 years of age as on the closing date of applications, i.e. 21/05/2023. Candidates should not be born before 22/05/1993. For SI(Civil), the age limit is between 21 to 30 years as on the closing date of application i.e. 21/05/2023. Candidates should not be born before 22/05/1993 or after 21/05/2002.
(b) Asst. Sub Inspector (Technical/ Draughtsman) – Candidates should be between 18 to 25 years of age as on the closing date of application i.e. 21/05/2023. Candidates should not be born before 22/05/1998 or after 21/05/2005.
The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and for Ex-Servicemen as per Govt. of India rules. Candidates can refer to the CRPF official Notification 2023 for more information on age relaxation criteria.

Selection Process for CRPF SI, ASI 2023:
The CRPF selection process for SI and ASI positions may include the following steps:
- Written Examination (CBT) conducted separately for each post.
- Physical Standard Test (PST)/ Physical Efficiency Test (PET)/ Documents Verification (DV)/ Detailed Medical Exam (DME)/Review Medical Exam (RME) scheduled after the Written Examination (CBT).
Exam Centers in Tamilnadu: Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli
Application Fee/Exam Fee for CRPF SI, ASI:
- Examination Fees: Rs. 200/- for Sub Inspector (Group-‘B’) and Rs. 100/- for Asst. Sub Inspector (Group-‘C’), applicable only for male candidates of General, EWS, and OBC categories. Candidates belonging to SC/ST, Ex-servicemen, and Female candidates of all categories are exempted.
- Fee Payment: Candidates can pay the fee online through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, RuPay Credit, or Debit cards.
- Payment Deadline: Online fee payment can be made by candidates until 2355 hours on 21/05/2023.
- Fee Refund: The prescribed fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any other test or selection.
- Fee Payment Confirmation: Candidates who are not exempted from fee payment must ensure that the fee has been deposited.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is one of the largest and most elite paramilitary forces in India.
It was established in 1939 as the Crown Representative’s Police (CRP) to maintain law and order during the British Raj.
After India gained independence in 1947, the force was renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and its primary responsibility was to maintain internal security, protect VIPs, and counter insurgency operations.
Today, the CRPF has a strength of over 300,000 personnel, and it is the largest component of India’s paramilitary forces.

History of the CRPF
The CRPF was originally formed as the Crown Representative’s Police (CRP) on 27 July 1939.
Its primary role was to provide security to the British Empire in India. During the Second World War, the CRP played a vital role in maintaining law and order in the country.
After India’s independence, the CRP was rechristened as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on 28 December 1949.
The CRPF was initially tasked with maintaining internal security and law and order in the country.
However, over the years, its role has expanded to include counterinsurgency operations, disaster management, and VIP protection.
Organization of the CRPF
The CRPF is headed by a Director-General, who is assisted by several Special Directors-General and Additional Directors-General.
The force is divided into several administrative and operational zones, each headed by an Inspector-General.
The CRPF is organized into several units, including battalions, companies, and platoons. A battalion consists of several companies, which are further divided into platoons.
Each battalion is commanded by a Commandant, who is assisted by several Deputy Commandants and Assistant Commandants.
The CRPF also has several specialized units, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), the Cobra (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), and the Special Duty Group (SDG).
Operations of the CRPF
The CRPF is primarily responsible for maintaining internal security and law and order in the country.

The CRPF’s specialized units are deployed in areas affected by left-wing extremism, insurgency, and terrorism. The Cobra is specifically trained and equipped to deal with Maoist insurgents in the country’s eastern and central regions. The Rapid Action Force is deployed to handle communal riots and other law and order situations.
Challenges faced by the CRPF
