TCS HackQuest Season 8 Work From Home HackQuest started in 2016 to unearth talents who excel in playing their favorite game – Catch the Flag! Based on the popular ‘Catch the Flag’ (CTF) format, the contest presents challenges to be completed in 6 hours. The set of challenges will be presented in 3 categories- 1. Beginner, 2- Intermediate, 3-Expert.
The participants are free to choose challenges from distinct categories and are encouraged to attempt all challenges across all categories and demonstrate their ability to handle different scenarios. In the end, associates are awarded special prizes and potential job offers from TCS in the cybersecurity unit.
Technology advancements and increased digital focus expose organizations to greater security challenges. Hacking is now more organized and pervasive, with cyber attackers using various techniques to gain unauthorized access, steal sensitive information, or disrupt digital operations. In the wake of a post-pandemic era, the role of a massive ethical hacking community has become imperative, requiring cyber sentinels to safeguard decentralized systems.
In response to this scenario of heightened cyber risks, it is crucial to set up a formidable and dedicated cyber army to protect digital ecosystem(s). This specialized focus should possess a holistic understanding of how data is stored, moved, and utilized across the digital landscape. As we navigate this cybersecurity landscape, a crucial question emerges: How can we ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data in the face of evolving challenges?

Eligibility: The competition welcomes participation from students enrolled in any recognized college, university, or academic institute in India who are set to graduate in the academic year 2024. Eligible participants must hold a degree in any specialization, including but not limited to:
- Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech)
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E)
- Master of Technology (M. Tech)
- Master of Engineering (M.E.)
- Bachelor of Computer Applications (B.C.A.)
- Master of Computer Applications (M.C.A.)
- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. – B.S.)
- Master of Science (M.Sc. – M.S.)
TCS reserves the right to verify participant eligibility by requesting relevant documents and taking necessary steps.
The contest is deemed void if participation or the contest itself is prohibited by law.
Participants: Individual participation is allowed; team or group participation is not permitted. TCS holds the right to assess eligibility and rule compliance at any point during the contest. Participants must promptly provide requested evidence to verify their eligibility and compliance.
No fees are associated with participation, registration, submission, or the contest itself. However, individual participants are responsible for any expenses incurred during their participation, and TCS will not sponsor or reimburse such expenses.
Contest Structure, Submission Shortlisting, Evaluation, Selection, and Judging:
Registration: Participants must register on the contest site (https://www.hackquest.tcsapps.com) during the open registration window using a valid TCS NextStep reference ID (CT/DT number).
To create a valid TCS NextStep reference ID, participants must log in to TCS NextStep (https://nextstep.tcs.com/campus/) in the ‘IT’ section, fill the required fields, and submit. This ID is mandatory for contest participation.
Participants will receive a unique credential for contest participation, which should not be shared.
During registration, participants interested in the contest will provide necessary profile details on the site.
Structure: The contest comprises two rounds:
- Round 1: An online ‘Catch the Flag’ competition with challenge statements falling into three categories – Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert levels. Participants choose challenges and attempt to solve them within a six-hour duration. Submissions include flags captured, a quality report, and the approach taken.
- Round 2: Shortlisted participants from Round 1 engage in remote activities, including penetration testing on hosted challenges and a case explanation round.
Domains: Participants with training in security domains such as Application Security, Network Security, Java/J2EE, PHP, Python, GO, Information Security, Ethical Hacking, Digital Forensics, Threat Hunting, Malware Analysis/Reverse Engineering, and security certifications have an advantage.
Submission Criteria: Participants must adhere to ethical standards, and submissions must be original, not violating any contractual obligations or applicable laws. Inappropriate or unlawful content is prohibited.
TCS Reserves: TCS reserves the right to alter contest round durations, reject entries, disqualify participants, and make final decisions on winners.
Evaluation: A jury panel from the TCS Cybersecurity team will evaluate submissions based on predefined criteria. The listed criteria are indicative, and the jury has the freedom to use their expertise in the evaluation process.
Prizes/Awards/Rewards: Mere announcement as a winner does not guarantee prizes. Top participants may receive provisional job offers, attend an award ceremony, and win prizes worth up to INR 5 Lakhs.
Certification of merit will be awarded, and exceptional performers may have an opportunity to work with the TCS Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence. TCS holds the right to substitute prizes at its discretion.
