UPSC AE Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Qualification:
- Scientist -B (Electrical):
- Educational: Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Physics from a recognized University or Institute OR a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized University or Institute.
- Experience: Candidates should have one year practical experience in testing / calibration and evaluation of electrical stores / materials / measuring instruments in a recognized laboratory / institute with a Master’s Degree in Physics, or two years practical experience with a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering / Electrical & Electronics Engineering / Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering from a recognized University or Institute. DESIRABLE: Research and Development experience in testing and evaluation techniques, material science, quality control, standardization, and calibration.
- Assistant Engineer (Naval Quality Assurance) Mechanical:
- Educational: Candidates must have a Degree in Engineering in the discipline of Mechanical.
- Experience: Candidates should have two years practical experience in Quality Assurance / Quality Control / Production / Manufacturing and testing of Engineering equipment, including knowledge of various standards and their interpretation. DESIRABLE: Experience in computer operation for the purpose of preparation of technical reports, technical briefs, etc.
- Specialist Grade III (Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy):
- Educational: Candidates should possess a recognized MBBS degree qualification included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule (other than licentiate qualifications) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956). Holders of educational qualifications included in Part II of the Third Schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956).
- Candidates must have a Post-graduate Degree or Diploma in the concerned Speciality or Super-speciality mentioned in Section-A or Section-B in Schedule VI.
- Experience: Candidates should have three years’ experience in the concerned Speciality or super-speciality after obtaining the first Post-graduate degree or five years’ experience after obtaining the Post-graduate Diploma.
- Assistant Engineer:
- Educational: Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Drilling or Mining or Mechanical or Civil or Electrical Engineering or Petroleum Technology from a recognized University or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: Candidates should have one year’s experience in repair and maintenance of Automobile machines and equipment OR one year’s experience in operation and maintenance of drilling rigs.
- Junior Ship Surveyor-Cum Assistant Director General (Technical):
- Educational: Candidates must have a Degree in Naval Architecture from a recognized University.
- Experience: Candidates should have three years practical experience in design, construction, survey, and repairs of ships carried out in shipbuilding or ship repairing yards or any Design or Survey Organization after the period of the degree course.
- Junior Research Officer (Research, Statistics & Analysis):
- Educational: Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Statistics or Operation Research or Mathematics or Applied Statistics or Applied Mathematics or Mathematical Statistics from a recognized University or Institute OR a Master’s Degree in Economics or Sociology or Psychology or Commerce with Statistics as one of the subjects at Graduate level or Post Graduate level from a recognized University or Institute.
- Desirable: Candidates with a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application awarded by any University or ‘A’ level Diploma under the Department of Electronics accredited computer course will be preferred. They should also possess one year post-qualification experience of analysis of statistical data and their interpretation in Central Government or State Government or University or Recognized Training Institute or Public Sector Undertaking or Statutory or Autonomous Organization or Recruitment Board.
Age Limit:
The age limits for the different posts are as follows:
- Scientist -B (Electrical): 40 years.
- Assistant Engineer (Naval Quality Assurance) Mechanical: 30 years.
- Specialist Grade III (Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy): 40 years.
- Assistant Engineer: 35 years.
- Junior Ship Surveyor-Cum Assistant Director General (Technical): 40 years.
- Junior Research Officer (Research, Statistics & Analysis): 30 years.

Salary Details:
The salary details for the various posts are as follows:
- Scientist -B (Electrical): Level-10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
- Assistant Engineer (Naval Quality Assurance) Mechanical: Level-07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
- Specialist Grade III (Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy): Level-11 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC plus NPA.
- Assistant Engineer: Level-08 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
- Junior Ship Surveyor-Cum Assistant Director General (Technical): Level-11 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
- Junior Research Officer (Research, Statistics & Analysis): Level-07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
UPSC AE Selection Process 2023:
The selection process for UPSC AE may include the following stages:
- Recruitment Test (RT): Candidates will have to appear for a recruitment test.
- Interview: Shortlisted candidates from the recruitment test will be called for an interview.
Application Fee/Exam Fee for UPSC AE:
- Candidates (Except Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty-five) only.
- The fee can be paid by remitting the money in any branch of the SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of any bank or by using Visa/Master/Rupay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI payment.
- SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates of any community are exempted from the fee payment.
- There is no fee exemption for Gen/OBC/EWS male candidates, and they are required to pay the full prescribed fee.
