MEA Government Internships 2024 The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is set to launch the second edition of the MEA Internships Programme for the fiscal year 2023-24. To facilitate a seamless internship experience, the interns are expected to take care of their board and lodging in Delhi during the entire duration of their internship. Eligibility Criteria for Internships at MEA Headquarters

Internship opportunities at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) headquarters are designed to foster engagement and learning for individuals interested in the realm of foreign policy. 1. Academic Eligibility: Internships are open to Indian citizens who hold a minimum educational qualification of a graduate degree from a recognized university at the time of applying. Additionally, students in the final year of their graduation, where an internship is mandatory as part of their final year curriculum, are also eligible to apply. The age of the candidates should not exceed 25 years as of December 31 of the internship year.

2. Intake and Duration: Internships are offered in two terms, each lasting for six months: April to September and October to March. The Ministry engages various interns during each term, and each intern is committed to a minimum period of one month and a maximum period of three months.

The two-stage selection process involves Preliminary Screening and Personal Interview. A ‘quota cum weightage’ system is employed, considering applicants from 14 States and 4 Union Territories. Additionally, there is a provision for interns from TADP districts and underprivileged sections of society. Women candidates are encouraged, and academic performance, assessed by percentage of marks obtained in +2 and graduation exams, carries weightage.

Candidates must apply online, and state-wise merit lists are prepared for both male and female candidates. Priority is given to applicants from TADP districts in the Preliminary Screening stage and to those belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories in the Personal Interview stage. The total number of candidates called for an interview is three times the interns to be engaged in each term.

4. Internship Experience: Selected candidates will gain exposure to various aspects of the Ministry’s functioning, its attached offices, and its role in assisting Indian citizens. The internship aims to provide an introduction to the formulation and implementation of foreign policy by the Government of India.

5. Obligations of the Intern: Interns will be assigned specific tasks by the Head of Division (HOD), which may include research, report writing, analysis of evolving developments, or other tasks. At the end of the internship, each intern is required to submit a detailed report on their work and, if necessary, make a presentation. The intellectual property resulting from the internship remains with the Ministry, and interns must maintain confidentiality regarding any information related to the Ministry of External Affairs.

6. Termination of Internship: Selection is subject to necessary security clearances, and the Ministry reserves the right to terminate the engagement of an intern at any time without providing a reason. Interns can also choose to terminate the internship by giving one week’s notice to the Ministry. In such cases, the cost of air travel, if incurred, will be recovered from the intern.
