NCL Recruitment 2025 Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), which is a subsidiary company of Coal India Limited, has released its recruitment notification for the position of Technician in the year 2025. The online application process started on April 17, 2025, and will run until May 10, 2025. 1 This recruitment process is to fill 200 vacancies for different Technician Trainee posts under different trades like Fitter, Electrician, and Welder.

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Miniratna and a unit of Coal India Limited, has released a major recruitment process for the year 2025 with regard to the post of Technician Trainee. The move is to recruit qualified candidates into their services to aid in their mining services situated within the Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh and the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. The online application for these 200 posts opened on April 17, 2025, and will close on May 10, 2025, giving sufficient time to the interested candidates to apply.

The hiring includes different trades essential to the coal mining sector, such as Technician Fitter, Technician Electrician, and Technician Welder. This age range is generally found to be appropriate for junior-level jobs demanding physical fitness and flexibility to job demands.

Still, as per government policy, NCL grants age relaxations to applicants in reserved categories. For example, candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) are entitled to relaxation in upper age limit of 5 years, whereas candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC-Non Creamy Layer) are given relaxation by 3 years. Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) are accorded even more valuable relaxations ranging from 10 years for UR category to 15 years for SC/ST category PwBD candidates. Ex-Servicemen are also given age relaxation equal to the duration of service provided plus 3 years with a maximum limit of 50 years under special circumstances. Departmental candidates who are already in the employment of NCL are given the facility of no maximum age limit for these recruitments. The procedure of selection of the NCL Technician Trainee posts is almost entirely on a Computer Based Test (CBT).

This web-based test is meant to gauge the technical awareness and overall aptitude of the candidates. The CBT has two sections. Section A is related to the technical subject pertaining to the trade the candidate has sought admission in, and it contains 70 objective-type questions with one mark each. It tests the understanding of the basic concepts and practical aspects of the respective ITI trade by the candidate. Section B tests the overall aptitude of the candidate, such as General Knowledge, General Awareness, Reasoning, Verbal & Mental Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude. Section B comprises 30 objective-type questions, each worth one mark, to test the overall mental abilities and awareness of the candidate. The CBT lasts for a total of 90 minutes, and there is no negative marking for wrong answers, motivating candidates to attempt all questions. The candidates must achieve a minimum qualifying mark in the CBT in order to be qualified for subsequent stages of the selection process.   For Unreserved (UR) and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) categories, the minimum marks to qualify are 50 out of 100. For candidates falling under SC, ST, OBC-Non Creamy Layer, Ex-Servicemen (ESM), and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) categories, the minimum marks to qualify are 40 out of 100. Scoring these minimum marks does not ensure selection but makes the candidate eligible for the next stage, i.e., document verification.

Eligible candidates in the CBT on a merit basis will be summoned for document verification. At this stage, candidates have to present original documents and self-attested photocopies to support their assertion of age, educational qualification, ITI certificate, apprentice training, caste/category (as applicable), and other supporting credentials as may be required.

The purpose of this verification is to verify the authenticity of information given by candidates through online application and to ascertain the candidate’s eligibility according to the recruitment rules. The document verification is a requirement for final selection. Final merit list of shortlisted candidates will be made on the basis of their performance in Computer Based Test. Where two or more candidates score the same mark in the CBT, there will be a tie-breaking parameter.

The order of merit shall be decided using the marks of Section A (Technical Knowledge). If the tie still exists, the candidate having an earlier birth date will take a higher place in the order of merit. In case of a tie, the order of alphabetical sequence of the name of the candidates will be taken into consideration to resolve the tie. Candidates who are interested and eligible must apply online through the website of Northern Coalfields Limited (nclcil.in). To apply, candidates must follow a series of steps beginning with registration on the portal with a valid email ID and mobile number.

After successful registration, the candidates will be provided with a Login ID and Password, which can be used to complete the online application form. The form asks candidates to furnish personal information, educational qualifications, ITI trade and apprentice training information, and other required details. Applicants are required to upload scanned images of their recent passport size photograph, signature, and supporting documents like Matriculation certificate, ITI certificate, Apprentice Training Certificate, and caste certificate (if any) in the given format and size. Once all the mandatory details have been filled in and the mandatory documents have been uploaded, General, OBC, and EWS category candidates need to make a non-refundable application fee of ₹1180/- (₹1000/- application fee and ₹180/- GST). This payment can be made online by using modes such as Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking.

SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and Departmental candidates are exempt from the application fee. It is important to submit the application form and pay the fee (if required) prior to the cutoff date, May 10, 2025 (11:59 PM). Candidates are instructed to take a printout of the submitted online application form for their future use.
