The Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), a leading institute in Coimbatore, India, is seeking passionate individuals to join their team on four project-based positions. Project Positions Available:

• Project Associate-I (Ecology): Two Positions
• Project Associate-I (Geology): One Position
• Research Associate-I: Two Positions (one requiring a Ph.D., the other a Master’s degree)

Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification:

• Project Associate-I (Ecology) & Research Associate-I (Master’s): A postgraduate degree (M.Sc.) with a minimum of 55% marks in life sciences or environmental sciences (Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Science, Conservation Biology, Biodiversity Studies, Forestry, Ecological Sciences, Environmental Studies, or allied disciplines) from a recognized university.
• Project Associate-I (Geology): A postgraduate degree (M.Sc.) with a minimum of 55% marks in Geology, Earth Sciences, Geomorphology, Environmental Geography, Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, or allied disciplines from a recognized university.
• Research Associate-I (Ph.D.): A Ph.D. degree in life sciences (Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Wildlife Science, Conservation Biology, Biodiversity Studies, Ecological Sciences, or allied disciplines) from a recognized university.

Desirable Qualifications:

While meeting the essential qualifications is necessary, possessing the following desirable qualities will significantly strengthen your application:

• Project Associate-I (Ecology):
  • Keen interest in cave and karst conservation and related environmental issues.
  • Skill in identifying and classifying invertebrates and vertebrates, along with expertise in sampling and preserving techniques.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations with challenging conditions and travel extensively by road and sea.
  • Proficiency in cave exploration and mapping techniques like SRT (Single Rope Technique), free climbing, and rock climbing.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools.
  • Proficiency in Hindi (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Project Associate-I (Geology):
  • Strong interest in exploring caves and karst formations in remote locations.
  • Ability to identify and characterize geomorphological features and rock formations.
  • Experience with geochemistry, including soil and water chemistry and related analytical techniques.
  • Proficiency in cave exploration and mapping, GIS tools, SRT technique, free climbing, and rock climbing.
  • Proficiency in Hindi (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Research Associate-I (Both Positions):
  • Strong identification skills for wild birds and mammals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Proficiency in English and Hindi (an advantage).
  • For the Ph.D. position: Professional experience in wildlife hazard management is highly desirable.
  • Possession of a valid two-wheeler and four-wheeler driving license (advantage for Ph.D. position).

Age Limit: The upper age limit is 35 years as of July 10th, 2024. However, relaxation is available for certain categories:

• SC/ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• PwBD (Gen/ EWS): 10 years
• PwBD (SC/ ST): 15 years
• PwBD (OBC): 13 years

Salary Details:

The salary varies depending on the position and is offered as per DST-SERB rules:

• Project Associate-I (Ecology & Geology): Rs. 31,000 + HRA
• Research Associate-I (Ph.D.): Rs. 58,000 + HRA
• Research Associate-I (Master’s): Rs. 31,000 + HRA
